Change out those Mirrors
(or put the old ones back on a
Vulcan Classic)

I really like the look of these low profile mirrors, but man there just too narrow. I hate to say it but I'm going back to stock till I find a larger custom set.
BUT........
last winter when I pulled of the stock mirrors, the right one was cross threaded on! Who ever assembled the bike took little pride in there work! The mirror stand was a mess, but I just retapped the 10mm-1.25 and installed the new narrow mirrors. The part is aluminum so it taps easily, but the mirror post is steel and will easily rip out the soft aluminum threads.

Now I want to go back to the original mirrors... there is no way this mirror stand will work again! So now I need to find a replacement!

Ok, now with parts in hand, the fun begins! Make sure you cover your tank with a large towel or something, you don't need any scratches!
Start by prying off the chrome caps that cover the mounting bolts. A razor blade works good here. Then use a 5 mm hex wrench and loosen both bolts, while you support the weight of the mirror and clutch reservoir.

I'm not replacing the left hand mirror stand, but I can't unwind the mirror
form the stand because the windshield is in the way. It's easier to do this
instead of removing the windshield or tipping it forward.
It's a good idea to take careful notice of the mirrors position before you start taking things apart.  When you loosen the bolts, the levers, and resievour want to fall off the handlebar with the mirror.
Here's the new piece from Bike Bandit, Exact match to the old one.
Here's the stock mirror and the new mirror stand in position. Notice the towel to protect the chrome.
